For those of have seen The Wolf of Wall Street, the American Dream is portrayed as a life that is composed of money, a big house, sports cars, hookers, and drugs. Jordan Belfort starts as a lower-middle class man, working his way up on Wall Street until the market crashes. Utilizing the skills he learned at Wall Street, he builds his own wealth by starting his own company and getting rich off penny-stocks. He ends up in jail due to security fraud and money laundering. The Wolf of Wall Street shows a more twisted side of reaching the American Dream and living in it. The movie shows that reaching the American Dream is not always hard. Sometimes, you can take "shortcuts" here and there and get away with it. However, Belfort ends up in jail. Belfort tells us that money is the cure to all illnesses. It's a drug and we cannot get enough of it. When it comes down to money, we always want more. There is no such thing as having "enough" money. I agree with him. We always want the next best thing out there. In order to get that thing, we have to spend money.
What do you believe American Dream is? Is the American Dream always based off the amount of money that you have? Or is it based on how happy your life is?
