Bruce Wayne is shown as an eccentric billionaire philanthropist is Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. However we see another side of him when the sun goes down, which is the persona he calls Batman. To the average man, Wayne has everything. He's got the money, sports cars, the looks, and the skill. People would say that he's living the American Dream. However, we are shown that Wayne still has to deal with the death of his parents and the pain of losing them follows him at every step. It goes to show that even though you may think that someone has everything you want, they could be missing something inside. Nolan shows the the Dream is different for everyone. In Wayne's eyes, helping the people of his city is the best way to carry on the legacy of his parents.

I agree with you completely Ghulam, the American dream can be different for everyone, depending on your life goals. For many people, a middle class life with am average income and small family is all they ask for, nothing lavish or expensive. On the other hand those you have those who want the opposite, a life of complete success and wealth, but with in their are two people that exist, those who only dream about such a thing and fail doing so and those who go out into the real world and accomplish the impossible.

I think the film shows the difficulty that comes with living a life of riches. When Bruce lives that sort of life, he has developed no meaningful relationships outside of his butler. He lives in a secluded home and never truly enjoys himself. He may be living a fantastic life on the outside but on the inside the wealth just leaves him empty.
